The Dark Knight Rises 2012 – Superhero (film)

The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises is a 2012 superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan, who wrote the screenplay with his brother Jonathan Nolan and the story with David S. Goyer. Based on the DC Comics character Batman, it is the final installment in Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy and the sequel to The Dark Knight (2008). The film stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman alongside Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Morgan Freeman. Eight years after the events of The Dark Knight, the terrorist Bane forces Bruce Wayne to resume his role as Batman and save Gotham City from nuclear destruction.

Christopher Nolan was hesitant about returning to the series for a third film, but agreed after developing a story with his brother and Gower that he felt would end the series on a satisfying note. Nolan took inspiration from Ben’s comic book debut in the 1993 “Nightfall” storyline, the 1986 series The Dark Knight Returns, and the 1999 story “No Man’s Land”. Filming took place from May to November 2011 in locations including Jodhpur, London, Nottingham, Glasgow, Los Angeles, New York City, Newark and Pittsburgh. Nolan used IMAX 70mm film cameras for most of the filming, including the first six minutes of the film, to optimize image quality. A vehicular variation of the Batplane and Batcopter, the “Bat”, an underground prison set and a new Batcave set were created specifically for the film. Like The Dark Knight, viral marketing campaigns began early in production. When filming ended, Warner Bros. refocused its campaign, creating a promotional website, releasing the first six minutes of the film, showing a theatrical trailer, and sending out information about the film’s plot.

Released

The Dark Knight Rises premiered in New York City on July 16, 2012. The film was released in the United States and the United Kingdom on July 20, 2012. The film received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics who considered it a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. The film grossed over $1 billion worldwide, making it the second film in the Batman film series to gross over $1 billion and the highest-grossing Batman film to date. In addition to being Nolan’s highest-grossing film, it became the seventh-highest-grossing film of all time at the time of its release, as well as the third-highest-grossing film of 2012. It was ranked as one of the top 10 films of 2012 by the American Film Institute.

Details

Ben, a former member of the League of Shadows, leads a CIA plane attack over Uzbekistan to kidnap nuclear physicist Dr. Leonid Pavel and fakes Pavel’s death in the crash.
Meanwhile, eight years after the death of Gotham City District Attorney Harvey Dent[a], organized crime is eradicated in Gotham by a law, the Dent Act, granting increased powers to the police. James Gordon, the police commissioner, keeps Dent’s murder a secret and allows Batman to be blamed for his crime. Bruce Wayne, still grieving the death of Rachel Dawes, is reclusive and Wayne Enterprises is at a standstill.

Ban enlists businessman John Daggett to buy Bruce’s fingerprints. Cat burglar Selina steals Bruce’s prints from Wayne Manor for Kyle Daggett, but he double-crosses her and she alerts the police, who chase Ben and Daggett’s henchmen into the sewers while Kyle escapes. The henchmen capture Gordon and take him to Bane, but he escapes and is found by Officer John Blake, an orphan, who discovers Bruce’s secret identity and convinces him to resume his vigilantism. Ben attacks the Gotham Stock Exchange and bankrupts Bruce by using Bruce’s fingerprints to verify a series of fraudulent transactions. Batman is resurrected to chase down Ben’s henchmen. Fearing that Bruce himself will be killed fighting Ben, his butler, Alfred Pennyworth, resigns in hopes of saving him after confessing to burning a letter Rachel left for him saying she was going to marry Dent. Bane expands his operations and kills Daggett while Bruce and Wayne Enterprises’ new CEO, Miranda Tate, become lovers.

Kyle agrees to take Batman to Bane but instead leads him into a trap under Wayne Tower. Ban is proud that he wants to fulfill Ra’s Al Ghul’s mission to destroy Gotham City before he brutally cripples Batman in battle. He then takes Bruce to an ancient underground prison in the Middle East, where Bruce learns that Ra’s al Ghul’s child was born and raised in prison but had a guardian who helped the child escape, which was thought to be impossible. Back in Gotham, Bane traps the police force in the sewers, destroys all but one bridge surrounding the city, kills Mayor Anthony Garcia, forces a fusion reactor core to transform into a decaying neutron bomb before killing Pavel, exposing Dent’s crimes to the city (thus weakens the legal system), frees the inmates of Blackgate Penitentiary, seizes the city and exiles Gotham’s elite, and kills the Proletarian Kangaroo Court presided over by Jonathan Crane.

Five months later, Bruce escapes from captivity and returns to Gotham. As Batman, he frees the police and together, they clash with Ben’s army in the streets. During the battle, Batman defeats Bane, but Tate stabs Batman, revealing herself to be Talia al Ghul, Ra’s al Ghul’s child. Unable to activate the bomb’s detonator due to Gordon blocking the signal, Talia goes to find the bomb. Kyle returns, kills Bane and helps Batman follow Talia, hoping to return the bomb to the reactor chamber where it can stabilize. Talia’s truck crashes, but she floods from a distance and destroys the reactor chamber before dying. With no way to stop the explosion, Batman, after revealing his identity to Gordon, uses his aerial craft, the Bat, to fly the bomb far above the bay, where it detonates safely.

Later, Batman is presumed dead and hailed as a hero. Wayne Manor becomes an orphanage and Bruce’s estate is left to Alfred. Gordon finds the Bat signal repaired, while Lucius Fox discovers that Bruce has fixed the Bat’s malfunctioning auto-pilot. In Florence, Alfred discovers that Bruce is alive and in a relationship with Kyle, and they silently confess to each other before parting ways. Blake, whose legal first name is revealed as Robin, resigns from the GCPD and receives a package leading him to the Batcave.

Cast and characters

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman:
As a haunted vigilante, a billionaire socialite who dedicates himself to protecting Gotham City from its criminal underworld. Nolan said that, due to the eight-year gap between The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, “he’s an older Bruce Wayne; he’s not in great shape.” Bell employed a martial art discipline called Kisey Fighting. Method, now modified for Wayne’s current state and Bane’s style. Bale has said that The Dark Knight Rises will be his last Batman film. Bale admits that Batman is “not a sane person, it’s someone who’s doing good, but he’s on the verge of doing bad”. Bell clarified that “he doesn’t want to forget [his parents’ death]. He wants to keep the anger he felt at that injustice”. Bell felt bitter about leaving the franchise, saying it was like “saying goodbye to an old friend”.
Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth:
Bruce’s trusted butler and confidant, who acts as a father figure to Wayne but is unable to accept Wayne’s desire to revive his Batman persona, even resigning his position to influence the importance of his position. Christopher Nolan emphasized the emotional bond between Pennyworth and Wayne, emphasizing its importance in the previous films, and predicted that the relationship would be tense in a way that had never been before.
Gary Oldman as James Gordon:
Commissioner of the Gotham City Police Department and one of the few honest police officers in the city. Oldman described the character’s task of cleaning up Gotham City as leaving him world-weary and somewhat jaded, comparing Gordon to a soldier who jumps at the chance to be on the front lines. His life has taken a turn for the worse since The Dark Knight; His wife has left him and taken their children, and the mayor plans to fire him. Gordon feels guilty for his role in covering up Harvey Dent’s crime and prepares to resign from his position as commissioner, but then he realizes that Gotham is about to be threatened.
Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman:
A professional cat thief, grifter and femme fatale who strikes up a playful, teasing relationship with Wayne that “takes some of the melancholy out of his character”, and follows a “clean slate” (a computer program that can be rumored to be a person to erase a criminal history) when he crosses paths with both Wayne and Batman. Hathaway auditioned without knowing what role she was being considered for. Hathaway described the role as the most physically demanding she has ever played and admitted that while she thought she was fit, she had to redouble her efforts in the gym to meet the demands of the role. Hathaway trained extensively in martial arts for the role, and looked to Hedy Lamarr—who was a primary inspiration for the comic book character—in developing her own performance. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight writer David S. Gower previously dropped the role of Michelle Pfeiffer in the third film due to her appearance in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns in 2008.
Tom Hardy as Ben:
A mysterious and physically imposing revolutionary villain who was expelled from the League of Shadows and portrays himself as a “liberator of pain”. He is desperate to continue Ra’s Al Ghul’s legacy by destroying Gotham. The character was chosen by Christopher Nolan because he wanted to see Batman tested on both a physical and emotional level. According to costume designer Lindy Hemming, the character wears a mask that supplies him with an anesthetic gas to relieve the pain he suffers from an injury “early in his story”. Hardy intended to portray the character as “scarier” than Robert Swanson’s version of the character in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, and to do so, his portrayal created a conflict between his voice and body. Hardy gained 30 pounds (14 kg) for the role, increasing his weight to 200 pounds (90 kg). Hardy based Ben’s voice on several influences, which included Bartley Gorman and the character’s comic book heritage. Ben claims that the enemies of his revolution are the rich and corrupt, who he claims are oppressing “the people”, when in reality it was a ploy to exploit the citizens of Gotham City for the ultimate goal of destroying Gotham. the city
Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate / Talia al Ghul:
The current CEO of Wayne Enterprises who encourages a still grieving Bruce to rejoin society and continue his father’s philanthropic work but is later revealed to be the daughter of Ra’s al Ghul and an associate of Bane. Cotillard provided his own dubbed-over voice for both the European and Canadian French dubs of the film.
Joey King as young Talia Al Ghul
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake:
A young police officer whose instincts lead him to believe there is trouble on the horizon is promoted to detective by Gordon when the older cop sees something of himself in the younger ones. Blake represents the idealism that Gordon and Bruce Wayne once held, but soon lost in their battle against crime in the city. The film revealed his legal name Robin John Blake, an homage to Batman’s sidekick Robin in the comics.
Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox:
The former CEO became Executive Vice President of Wayne Enterprises, running the company on behalf of Wayne and acting as his armorer for the Batsuit, supplying him with high-tech equipment and discreetly creating cutting-edge technology and weaponry while starting Wayne Enterprises. lose money
Matthew Modine as Peter Foley: Gordon’s second-in-command who dislikes Batman.
Ben Mendelsohn as John Daggett: A rival billionaire socialite who recruits Ben in a plan to take control of Wayne Enterprises.
Bern Gorman as Philip Stryver: Daggett’s assistant and senior executive vice president of Daggett Industries. Philip Stryver is named after Stryver from A Tale of Two Cities, the novel that directly influenced The Dark Knight Rises.

Juno Temple as Jane: Selina Kyle’s friend and ally.

Aidan Gillen as Bill Wilson: A CIA operative tasked with getting Pavel out of Uzbekistan and tracking down Ben for terrorist activities prior to his appearance in Gotham City. (Bill is referred to only as “CIA” in the film’s dialogue; the character’s name is revealed in the film’s novelization.)
Brett Cullen portrays Byron Gilley, a US congressman kidnapped by Kyle. Brett Cullen will play Thomas Wayne in the 2019 DC Comics adaptation of Joker.
Chris Ellis as Father Riley, the priest at the orphanage where Blake grew up.
Tom Conti as Prisoner: An unnamed prisoner who serves as Bruce Wayne’s caretaker at Ben’s underground prison, The Pit.
