Cast And Characters

Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man:
Avengers benefactor who describes himself as a “genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist” with an electromechanical suit of armor of his own making. According to directors Joe and Anthony Russo, Downey was the only actor who received the entire script for the film. Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely knew that Stark’s death was inevitable both as a “turn to selflessness” and as the end of Stark’s “chapter”. They felt his death was earned after giving him “the perfect retirement life”, adding, “That’s the life he was striving for. They got married, had a kid, it was great. It’s a good death. It’s a tragedy. It doesn’t feel like it. It feels like a heroic, accomplished life.” [8] Joe Russo explained that Stark “always knew he was going to die because he could never reconcile the idea within himself of not saving the universe,” and added that Stark was the most hated of the Avengers because of “his heart Stark is the most powerful of them all.” Since Captain America: Civil War (2016).
Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America:
The leader of the Avengers, a World War II veteran and former fugitive, he is elevated to peak human physicality by an experimental serum and frozen in suspended animation before waking up in the modern world. Marcus describes Rogers as someone who is “moving toward some kind of enlightened self-interest”. McFeely knew Rogers was “going to get his dance” as he promised Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). He initially planned to complete Rogers’ story arc by killing Rogers before deciding to abandon his shield, given the character’s prolonged life thanks to his profession. Patrick Gorman provides an on-set reference for an older Steve Rogers.
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk:
An Avenger and genius scientist who, due to exposure to gamma radiation, usually transforms into a monster when angry or excited. In this film, Banner manages to balance his two sides through gamma experiments, enabling him to combine his intelligence with the strength and physical stature of the Hulk, based on the “Professor Hulk” comic book identity. Compared to the other heroes, who are disillusioned by their defeat against Thanos, Banner is the only character who is optimistic, Anthony Russo explained, “Banner is the only character who is actually moving towards a bright new future, trying to create something completely new. And completely Find something new Banner is the person who is the most heroic in the sense that he maintains his will to keep trying.” Continued in Avengers: Infinity War.
Chris Hemsworth as Thor:
An Avenger and King of Asgard based on the Norse mythological god of the same name. Thor now wields a mystical ax known as Stormbreaker, following the destruction of his hammer, Mjolnir, in Thor: Ragnarok. In the film, Thor becomes an overweight, drunken ruler of Asgard’s refugees in Tønsberg, Norway. Referring to this drastic character change, Hemsworth said, “I just had one opinion. I wanted to do something different this time. I wanted to do something different in every film, especially the last couple, and they were on board,” adding, “We spent a lot of hours. And shot for days and discussed how far we could push (Thor) and what we could do differently.” Condition, this is not a loophole. It’s an expression of where he’s at on a character level, and we think it’s one of his most relatable aspects. I mean, it’s a very common kind of response to frustration and pain.” Thor’s story was his favorite arc, saying: “Part of Chris’s magic as a comedian is his dedication to character depth on a very sincere level when the comedy is coming up and it’s very confusing and destructive A place of complete commitment and emotional complexity.” Hemsworth spent about three hours in hair and makeup for the transformation, which required him to wear a large silicone prosthetic suit; on set he called himself the “Lebowski Thor”. Voluntary” was supposed to go back, but Hemsworth successfully argued for Thor to keep his new body.
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow:
An Avenger and a highly trained spy and S.H.I.E.L.D. Its former agent. At the start of the film, Romanoff continues to command several teams from around the galaxy at Avengers headquarters, which Joe Russo explained stems from his inability to move on from his failure to stop Thanos, “He’s doing everything he can to try and hold the community together. Still a watchman on the wall.” Regarding Romanoff’s decision to sacrifice himself in order to acquire the Soul Stone for Burton to bring everyone back, Joe Russo said that it was part of a larger theme that explores the desire to sacrifice, compared to the desire to protect in Infinity War; “When he gets to that [Soul Stone] scene, I think he realizes that the only way to bring the community back is to sacrifice himself,” he says. McFeely says, “His journey, in our minds, was over if he could get the Avengers back. He comes from such an abusive, horrible, mind-control background, so when he goes to Vormir and gets a chance to get his family back, he’s a To prepare for the film The Things He’ll Trade, Johansson underwent a high-intensity workout regimen under the tutelage of her longtime trainer, including plyometrics, Olympic weightlifting and gymnastics, as well as a time-restricted diet, Eric Johnson, with whom she co-starred in Iron Man. 2 (2010), the film that introduced her character.
Clint Burton / Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye:
A skilled archer and a former Avenger and S.H.I.E.L.D. Its agent who was recently under house arrest. McFeely described Burton’s dark twist as “a good example of people with a lot of strong stories after the snap.” The film’s cold open, which features Burton’s family falling apart, was initially supposed to be Infinity War after Thanos’ snap; However, it was instead moved to Endgame, with Marcus explaining that it was “going to blunt the brutality of what [Thanos] did.” One of the few scenes in the movie that actually makes me cry when I watch it, because I think about my own family […] and then you think about what happens to you as a father. Self-destructive.”
Don Cheadle as James “Rhode” Rhodes / War Machine:
A US Air Force officer and Avenger who operates War Machine Armor. Cheadle described Rhodes’ newfound Avenger as “not so much straddling one leg in the military. He’s more for The Avengers than ever.” Amidst fantastic encounters this is reflected in Rhodes’ more natural and realistic worldview, with Cheadle explaining, “He’s definitely got some ‘what-the-f-e-happening’ [attitude,] maybe more than the rest, given his background. But it’s A trial by fire, and he has quickly adapted to what [the threat] is, rather than what he wants it to be.”
Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man:
A former petty criminal and Avenger who acquired a suit that allows him to shrink or increase in scale as well as gain strength. Lang is portrayed as a child by the twins Bazlow and Loane LeClaire, Jackson A. Dunn at 12 and Lee Moore at 93. It was Moore’s final film before his death in August 2018. Marcus explained that adding Lang helped implement time travel in the film, saying, “In the second film we had access to him, and the fact that he brought in a whole subset of technology that had something to do with a different concept. Time was like a birthday present. ”
Brie Larson as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel:
An ex-U.S. Air Force fighter pilot and Avenger whose DNA was altered during an accident, imbuing him with superhuman strength, energy projection and flight. Marcus said that Danvers’ powers are on a scale that previously did not exist in the MCU and compared his personality to Rogers, “It’s a guy who’s right and knows they’re right and when you don’t want to hear it, tell them they’re wrong” in Danvers’ film. There is very little screen time, which McFeely argued “isn’t the story we’re trying to tell—it’s the original Avengers dealing with damage and coming to a conclusion, and he’s new, fresh blood.” Larson. Filmed his scenes for Endgame before starting work on his solo film Captain Marvel (2019), which was released first. Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck attended the filming of his scene in Endgame and gave their blessing to Danvers’ characterization in the film.
Karen Gillan as Nebula:
An adopted daughter of Thanos and the Avengers who was raised as siblings with Gamora. After appearing as an antagonist or anti-hero in previous MCU films, Nebula goes through a redemption arc in the film where she makes amends for her past actions, including a confrontation with a past version of herself, with Gillan adding that she “turns her face on her face.” Looking at the former self and it’s really clear how far she’s come from that angry, bitter and twisted person. Gillan speculated that Nebula would play a prominent role in the film when she realized that Infinity War and Endgame would be adapted from The Infinity Gauntlet, which She previously read when she first starred as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). Gillan shared several scenes with Downey early in the film, and the two improvised most of their scenes together.
Danai Gurira as Okoye: The general of the Dora Milaj, a group of elite female warriors.
Benedict Wong as Wong: A master of the arcane arts and a companion to Doctor Strange.
Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan: Stark Industries’ former head of security and Stark’s friend and former driver.
Bradley Cooper as Rocket:
A member of the Guardians and Avengers who is a genetically engineered raccoon-based bounty hunter, mercenary, and master of weapons and combat tactics. Sean Gunn was again a stand-in for Rocket during filming, with his acting and expressions serving as a pacing reference for the character. Rocket’s appearance in the film continues a story arc that Guardians of the Galaxy writer-director and Endgame executive producer James Gunn established in the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films, continued in Infinity War and Endgame, and culminated in Guardians of the Galaxy. Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Pot:
Stark’s wife and CEO of Stark Industries. Potts wears a weapon-powered exosuit made for him by Stark based on the Rescue Armor. Paltrow said this would be her final major appearance in the MCU.
Josh Brolin as Thanos:
An intergalactic warlord on Titan who, in Infinity War, acquired all six Infinity Stones and triggered the Snap, killing half of all life in the universe. Joe Russo said that after Thanos’ success in Avengers: Infinity War, he was “done” and “retired”. Marcus and McFeely had difficulty including the older, post-Infinity War, Thanos in the film because the character already possessed the Infinity Stones, until executive producer Trinh Tran suggested killing off Thanos in the film’s first act. Marcus explained that the character’s early death enhanced his plot. Thanos has less screen time in Endgame than in Infinity War, where he was considered the main character, as McFeely explained: “We had to allow ourselves to back off the villain a little bit. I don’t think in the first half of the movie anyone was going, ‘Oh, if a villain would have been’. You’re walking around in damage and looting time, and you think it’s like Avengers against nature.” The younger version of Thanos is dubbed “Warrior Thanos” by the filmmakers. In addition to providing the voice for the character, Brolin did motion capture on set. Joe Russo sided with Thanos for some scenes opposite Nebula.

James D’Arcy reprized his role as Edwin Jarvis from the MCU television series Agent Carter, marking the first time a character has appeared in an MCU film in an MCU television series.
Additionally, Hiroyuki Sanada portrays Akihiko, a yakuza boss operating in Tokyo who opposes Burton. Lexie Rabe plays Morgan Stark, Tony and Pepper’s daughter.
