Man of Steel 2013 – Superhero (film) DC Comics

Man of Steel

Man of Steel is a 2013 superhero film based on the DC Comics character Superman. Directed by Zack Snyder, the story was developed by David S. Gower and producer Christopher Nolan, with Gower writing the screenplay. The film was a reboot of the Superman film series, depicting the character’s origin story, and is the first installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill in the title role alongside Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne and Russell Crowe. In the film, Clark Kent learns that he is a super-powered alien from the planet Krypton. He takes on the role of protector of mankind as Superman, deciding to confront General Zod and stop him from destroying humanity.

Development began in 2008 when Warner Bros. took pitches from comic book writers, screenwriters, and directors, choosing to reboot the franchise. In 2009, a court ruling resulted in Jerry Siegel’s family regaining the rights to Superman’s origins and Siegel’s copyright. The ruling states that Warner Bros. did not pay the family additional royalties from previous films, but if they did not begin production on a Superman film by 2011, Shuster and the Siegel estate would be able to sue for lost revenue from an unproduced film. . Nolan pitched the idea to Gower after discussing a story on The Dark Knight Rises, and Snyder was hired as the film’s director in October 2010. Principal photography began in West Chicago in August 2011 before moving to Vancouver and Plano, Illinois.

Released

Man of Steel premiered at Alice Tully Hall on June 10, 2013, and was released in the United States on June 14, 2013. Critics felt that the film’s visually-engaging action sequences were not enough to overcome its passage into “generic blockbuster territory”. , and they were divided over Cavill’s performance as Superman. It grossed $668 million worldwide, becoming the ninth-highest-grossing film of 2013. A follow-up titled Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was released on March 25, 2016.

Details

The planet Krypton is becoming unstable from mining the planetary core. Just before the planet explodes, Krypton’s top scientist, Jor-El, steals the Genetics Codex and inserts it into his infant son Kal-El, the first naturally born Kryptonian child in centuries. Zor-El manages to send Kal-El on a spaceship towards Earth before being killed by General Zod during a coup. Kal-El lands in Kansas, where he is adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent and named Clark. As he grows up, he develops superhuman powers that Jonathan begs him to keep hidden, even years later refusing Clarke’s help during a tornado storm in which he loses his life. Overwhelmed with guilt over Jonathan’s death, Clark travels the world under various aliases in search of a purpose in life.

Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane receives an assignment to investigate the discovery of a Kryptonian scout ship in the Arctic. Clark enters the ship disguised as a worker and learns of his origins from his artificial intelligence as his father Jor-El, and that Clark was sent to Earth to guide his people. While following Clark, Lois inadvertently triggers the ship’s security system and uses her powers to rescue Lois from its defenses. He dons a uniform provided by the ship’s AI and begins testing his abilities. Unable to convince supervisor Perry White to publish an article on the incident, Lois tracks down Clark in Smallville, intent on exposing him. However, Lois drops the story after hearing about Jonathan Kent’s sacrifice, protecting Clark’s identity while arousing Perry’s suspicions.

Zod and his crew escape the Phantom Zone, where they are imprisoned for treason for their actions against Krypton. They travel to Earth to make it into a new Krypton, with several terraforming devices recovered from the Kryptonian outpost. After Clark and Lois’ capture, Zod’s science officer, Jax-Ur, extracts Clark’s genes to create new Kryptonians who will form a society based on Zod’s ideals of genetic purity. Using the Jor-L AI to take over the ship, Clark and Lois escape and alert the US military of Zod’s plans, leading to a clash between Clark and Zod’s troops.

Zod deploys his most powerful terraforming device, the World Engine, which severely damages Metropolis and threatens humanity with extinction. Clarke destroys the terraforming platform while the military launches an attack on the World Engine, sending Zod’s troops back to the Phantom Zone. With the ship destroyed and Krypton’s only hope of revival gone, Zod vows to destroy Earth and its inhabitants in revenge. The two Kryptonians engage in a long battle across Metropolis, which ends when Clark kills Zod when he attacks a family trapped in a train station. Sometime later, Clark takes the title “Superman” and convinces the government to let him work independently, on the condition that he not turn against humanity. To gain secret access to dangerous situations, he takes a job as a reporter for the Daily Planet under his civilian identity of Clark Kent.

What kind of story? What kind of theme do you mean? So we made it. After that, it usually becomes clear who the villain is going to be a suitable opponent for. When you watch the movie, we can only use Zod and the Kryptonians as villains. I mean, when you look at the whole story, nothing else makes sense.”

Laurence Fishburne as Perry White:
The editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet and Lois Lane’s boss. Fishburne was the first African-American to play Perry White in a live-action film. Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike were also considered for the role. About the role of Faora, True said in an interview: “What I loved about her is that as a woman, we have doubts and we sometimes think too much about ourselves and all these things, they’re not there for Faora.
