Captain America – Civil War

Captain America: Civil War is a 2016 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Captain America, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and the 13th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay by the team written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and stars Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America with an ensemble cast including Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony. Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Emily VanCamp, Marisa Tomei, Tom Holland, Frank Grillo, Martin Freeman, William Hart and Daniel Bruhl. In Captain America: Civil War, disagreements over international oversight of the Avengers split the team into two opposing factions—one led by Steve Rogers and the other led by Tony Stark (Downey).
Development of Civil War began in late 2013 when Marcus and McFeely began writing the screenplay, which borrows ideas from the 2006 comic book story “Civil War” and focuses on story and character elements from the previous Captain America films to complete the trilogy. Following the positive response to The Winter Soldier, the Russo brothers were brought back to direct in early 2014. The film’s title and premise were revealed in October 2014, with Downey in the role of Stark; Additional cast members joined in the following months. Principal photography began in April 2015 at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia, and continued in the metro Atlanta area before finishing in Germany in August 2015. The film was the first to use IMAX’s digital 2D cameras (for the film’s central airport fight sequence). Visual effects were provided by approximately 20 different studios.
Captain America: Civil War had its world premiere on April 12, 2016 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Los Angeles, and was released in the United States on May 6 as the first film in Phase III of the MCU. The film was a commercial success, grossing $1.1 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2016 and receiving positive reviews, with praise for the acting (especially Evans and Downey), action sequences, and themes. A fourth film, Captain America: Brave New World, is set for release in May 2024, a sequel to Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021), which follows Mackie’s Sam Wilson as Captain America.

Moral Of The Story

In 1991, brainwashed super-soldier James “Bucky” Burns is sent to intercept an automobile carrying a case of super-soldier serum from a Hydra base in Siberia. In the present, about a year after Ultron was defeated by the Avengers at the Sokovia race, [a] Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, Sam Wilson, and Wanda Maximoff stop Brock Ramlo from stealing a biological weapon from a lab in Lagos. Romlow blows himself up trying to kill Rogers. Maximoff telekinetically deflects the blast, accidentally destroying a nearby building and killing several Wakandan humanitarian workers in the process.
Thaddeus Ross, US Secretary of State, informed the Avengers that the United Nations (UN) was preparing to pass the Sokovia Accords, which would establish a UN panel to oversee and control the group. The Avengers are divided: Tony Stark supports Oversight because of his role in the creation of Ultron and the destruction of Sokovia, while Rogers trusts his own judgment more than politicians. Meanwhile, Helmut tracks down and kills Zemo Burns’ old Hydra handler, stealing a book containing the trigger words that activate Burns’ brainwashing. At a UN conference in Vienna where the Accords are to be ratified, a bomb kills King T’Chaka of Wakanda. Security footage indicates that the bomber is Burns, whom T’Challa’s son, T’Challa, has vowed to kill. Informed of Sharon Carter Barnes’ whereabouts and the authorities’ intention to kill him, Rogers decides to try to bring Barnes – his childhood friend and war comrade – to life. Rogers and Wilson track Burns down to Bucharest and try to protect him from T’Challa and the authorities, but all four, including T’Challa, are apprehended by the Bucharest police and James Rhodes.
Impersonating a psychiatrist sent to interview Burns, Zemo recites words to activate Burns’ brainwashing. He questions Barnes, then berates him for his own escape. Rogers stops Barnes and takes him into hiding. When Burns regains consciousness, he explains that Zemoi wanted the location of the original Vienna bomber and the Siberian Hydra base, where the other brainwashed “Winter Soldiers” are being held in cryogenic stasis. Unwilling to wait for approval to capture Zemo, Rogers and Wilson go rogue and recruit Maximoff, Clint Barton, and Scott Lang to their cause. With Ross’s permission, Stark assembles a team consisting of Romanoff, T’Challa, Rhodes, Vision, and Peter Parker to capture the Rebels. Stark’s team intercepts Rogers’ team at the Leipzig/Halle airport, where they fight until Romanoff allows Rogers and Barnes to escape. As Rogers and Burns escape, Rhodes is inadvertently shot by the Vision and partially paralyzed. The rest of Rogers’ group was captured and held in Raft Prison, and Romanoff went into exile.
Stark discovers evidence that Barnes was framed by Zemo and convinces Wilson to give him Rogers’ destination. Without informing Ross, Stark goes to the Siberian Hydra facility and brokers a truce with Rogers and Burns, unaware that they have secretly followed T’Challa. They find that the other super-soldiers have been killed by Zemo, who then shows them footage that reveals that the automobile Barnes seized in 1991 contained Stark’s parents, whom Barnes later killed. Angered that Rogers kept it from him, Stark turns on both of them, resulting in an intense fight, in which Stark destroys Barnes’ robotic arm and Rogers disables Stark’s armor. Rogers leaves his shield behind and leaves with Barnes. Satisfied that he has avenged his family’s death in Sokovia by successfully disarming the Avengers from the operation, Zemo attempts suicide, but T’Challa stops him and takes him to the authorities.
Later, Stark provides Rhodes with exoskeletal leg braces that allow him to walk again, while Rogers breaks his allies from the raft. In a mid-credits scene, Burns, granted asylum in Wakanda, chooses to go back into cryogenic sleep until his brainwashing can be cured. In a post-credits scene, Parker explores the features of the web shooters created for him by Stark.

Cast and characters

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America:
Leader of a team of Avengers against the Control; A World War II veteran who was frozen in extended and suspended animation at the peak of human physicality before waking up in the modern world. Director Anthony Russo described Captain America’s character arc in the film as taking him from “the most ra-ra company guy” to “a willing preacher” to “a rebel”. Unlike Civil War in the comics, the film would never kill off Rogers, as the directors thought it was “an easy ending… a harder and more interesting place to leave a family struggle: can these important relationships ever be repaired? ? , a along with a high protein diet. His costume in the film received “subtle changes in all the details and cut” as well as its color, becoming a combination of the stealth suit from the Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron suits.
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man:
Leader of a team of Avengers in support of Control; A self-described genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist with an electromechanical suit of his own invention. Anthony Russo said that Stark’s arrogance allowed the writers to “bring him to a place in his life where he was willing to submit to an authority, where he felt it was the right thing to do.” Joe Russo added that because of the vision Stark had in Age of Ultron, he now has a guilt complex that “drives him to make very specific decisions,” calling his stress “very complex.” Eric Oram, Downey’s personal trainer, said that the trick to pitting Rogers against Stark was to “show Iron Man using the ‘minimum power’ necessary to win the battle”. Marvel initially wanted to minimize Downey’s part, but “Downey wanted Stark to play a more significant role in the film’s plot.” Variety notes that Downey will receive $40 million plus backend for his participation, as well as if the film outsells The Winter Soldier , as Marvel will attribute that success to Downey’s presence.
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow:
An Avenger allied with Stark; Formerly a highly trained S.H.I.E.L.D. the spy Anthony Russo noted his torn loyalties in the film, saying “his head is with Tony, but his heart is with Cap in a lot of ways.” Put himself in a place where he can “get a good view of what’s really going on” for her so that she can fight him. On Ultron, Johansson said, “I think that Widow’s past will always haunt her. She’s trying to move on, she’s trying to piece together the pieces of her life.” Where he can make his own choices without involving others in the decision process. Regarding the continuity of the relationship between Romanoff and Rogers from The Winter Soldier, Joe Russo said that they wanted to “test it” by having Romanoff bring up the mistakes the team made to Rogers and convince him that “it can’t be black. And white as he sees it” and The Avengers must “find a way to work within the system so that [they] don’t break.”
Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier:
A physically enhanced brainwashed assassin befriended Rogers; His best friend who reappears after being killed in action during World War II. This portrayal is a combination of Burns and the Winter Soldier, with Stan saying, “This is the guy when you put the two together. That’s what comes out. To me, he’s never really going to be Bucky Burns again. There’s stuff about him that’s going to be recognizable, but [ The Winter Soldier’s] path through his experiences is always going to be there, haunting him.”
Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon:
An Avenger allied with Rogers; A former parachutist trained in aerial combat using a specially designed wing pack by the military. Wilson is assisted by a robotic drone called Redwing. Discussing the relationship between Wilson and Rogers, Mackie said, “With Falcon and Cap, what’s great is the mutual respect. There’s a soldier’s respect. What a great thing… [Captain America: Civil War] Will you see them? ?relationships grow,” adding, “He respects and admires Cap because Cap earned his rank as opposed to just sitting in an office and handing out orders.” Questioning his dynamic and relationship with Rogers.
Don Cheadle as James “Rhode” Rhodes / War Machine:
A close personal friend of Tony Stark and an Avenger allied with Stark; A US Air Force officer who operates War Machine Armor. Cheadle called Rhodes’ appearance in the film “a little more intense and important” than his previous appearances.
Clint Burton / Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye:
A skilled archer allied with Rogers; A retired Avenger and S.H.I.E.L.D. Regarding Burton’s reasons for joining Agent Rogers, Renner said, “Cap was the first person to call. Let’s get the job done so I can go to the family”, since his brother, Pietro Maximoff, sacrificed himself to save Burton in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Regarding how he and Burton fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Renner said, “I’m happy to be together. I’m not scratching or clawing to do a solo film by any means… I think [Burton’s] a utility guy that other people have. can bounce around the universe bit by bit”
Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther:
The African nation of Wakanda allies with Prince Stark who gains increased strength by consuming a heart-shaped herb. Producer Kevin Feige explained that the character was included “because we needed a third party. We needed fresh eyes who weren’t embedded with the Avengers and who had a different perspective than Tony or Steve.” T’Challa is “in the early stages” of the Black Panther mantle, Boseman did not audition for the role, instead having a “discussion about what [Marvel] wanted to do and how I saw it and what I wanted to do”. The legacy of Wakanda, and how things should be done in the present, is based on Boseman’s own Wakandan accent and uses it throughout production “whether he’s on camera or not”, while the Wakandan language is based on the Xhosa language, which Boseman taught. John Kani (who plays T’Challa’s father T’Chaka). The Black Panther costume is a combination of practical clothing and visual effects, featuring a vibranium mesh weave similar to chainmail. Costume designer Judiana Makowski called the Black Panther costume “hard”. Did because “you needed a cat body, but it’s hard and practical at the same time. You needed a kind of ethnic feel there, but a world [Wakanda] we hadn’t really created yet, so you didn’t want to go too far and say too much about that world.” Additionally, Makovsky created T’Challa’s majestic appearance. Considered “a bit of a challenge,” eschewing the African clothing typically worn by real African royals “educated in the West [and] worn on Savile Row.” Signed a five-picture deal with Marvel.
Paul Bettany as Vision:
An android and Avenger allied with Stark; Artificial intelligence created using J.A.R.V.I.S., Ultron and the Mind Stone. Because the vision was only created in the previous film Age of Ultron, Bettany said, “You see my character born… He has to be all-powerful and completely stupid at the same time. And experience the world in real time and his place in it. What he is.” Going to be a force for good or a force for evil?” Bettany also said that she was “interested in exploring what it means to be human and what love is” with the character “The only way to guarantee one’s loyalty is love.” I think she worries that they’re both dangerous. So she feels this real connection to him. .” Since the Vision has the ability to create a projected disguise, he chooses a costume similar to that of Howard Stark’s attache, Edwin Jarvis.
Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff:
An Avenger allies with Rogers; He can engage in hypnosis and telekinesis. According to Olsen, the character is “coming into her own and beginning to understand and conflict with how she wants to use her powers.” -based” according to Makovsky, as Russo believed that Maximoff was not yet a full Avenger. When asked about the relationship between her character and Vision compared to the comics, Olsen said, “You get a little bit more of what connects [Scarlett and Vision] in this film. can learn And I think Paul and I have some really sweet moments , and more about how they relate to each other and their similarities based on their superpowers.”
Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man:
A former petty criminal befriended Rogers; He acquired a suit that allowed him to shrink or grow in scale as well as gain strength. Rudd’s suit is “more comfortable and more high-tech” than the one seen in Ant-Man. Ant-Man director Peyton Reed discussed the character and how Ant-Man Productions shot some sequences with the Russo brothers, saying, “Like we were doing [Ant-Man] and we were on post and they were getting ready. To go to Atlanta for Civil War. , we’ve had a lot of conversations … It’s important because this continuity has to happen in this universe.” In Airport Battle Man, Feige said, “It’s a great idea to turn the tide of battle in a huge, shocking, unexpected way. That’s dependent on revealing Giant-Man, so we thought that would be a fun, incredibly unexpected way to do it.” Really impressed with Captain America, he just wants to deliver and he figures out a way where he can actually tear himself in half but he’s willing to do it and it works.”
Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter:
Former agent of S.H.I.E.L.D and Peggy Carter’s niece who now works for the CIA and supports Rogers. VanCamp said her character sides with Rogers because they both have a “similar moral compass”. Regarding a possible relationship between Rogers and Carter as in the comics, Evans said, “She’s definitely open to it. Sharon is obviously relevant, but … we don’t have to tie it into a movie. So they have time.” VanCamp added, “We Can explore… I can’t say the extent to which we’re going into it, but they’re definitely getting to know each other.”
Marisa Tomei as May Parker: Peter Parker’s aunt.
Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man:
A teenager befriended the Starks; He gained spider-like powers after being bitten by a radioactive spider. Feige said Parker would be torn between superhero ideologies, saying, “Does he want to be like these other characters? Does he want nothing to do with these other characters? How does that affect his experience, this grounded but superpowered hero? Stan Lee.” And Steve Ditko played with all those things in his first 10 years of comics, and now we get to play with them for the first time in a movie.” , despite entering the conflict after the two factions had formed and not made much political investment, Parker’s choice came from the “very personal relationship” he developed with Stark. Russo hoped to “take a very logical and realistic and naturalistic approach to the character” compared to the previous film’s portrayal. Anthony Russo added that the character’s role should fit “that certain tonal stylistic world” of the MCU, as well as the tone established by the directors in Winter Soldier, “it’s a little more grounded and a little more hard-core contemporary.” “There were many colors”. On the Spider-Man suit, Joe Russo described it as “a slightly more traditional, Steve Ditko-influenced suit” and that the film would explore the way the suit operated, particularly the mechanical eyes. Holland chose not to read the entire Civil War script to avoid potentially leaking plot information publicly. He was initially signed for at least three films, not including his Civil War appearance. Holland later expanded, saying he was signed on for “three Spider-Man movies and three solo movies”.
Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow / Crossbones:
S.H.I.E.L.D. Former commanders of its counter-terrorism S.T.R.I.K.E. team who were revealed to be agents of Hydra. After returning to the character, Grillo said “He’s a badass. He’s just mischievous. I like the idea that there’s no stopping it. I was 15 pounds bigger when I did Cap 2, and I’m going to put on another 15 pounds. Cap 3.” However, he cautioned that “this movie is a big movie with a lot of people, so you don’t get as much time as you want.” Grillo said that Rumlow’s main motive in the film is revenge—”whatever Rumlow was feeling as far as where he should be, which he was, is now gone.”
Everett K. Martin Freeman as Ross:
A member of the CIA’s Joint Counterterrorism Center and a character associated with Black Panther in the comics. Freeman describes Ross as someone who “works for the American government … [and] works in conjunction with superheroes and certain organizations that help control the powers of superheroes”. Feige added that Rose would appear briefly in the film, with the intention of expanding the character’s role in future films; 2022)
William Hart as Thaddeus Ross:
United States Secretary of State and a former US Army General. Returning to the MCU after appearing in The Incredible Hulk, Hart said, “I don’t think it’s a revival, I think it’s a completely new iteration,” adding, “[What the writers] did is they ‘took a character . .. and created a new version… a more modern style.” He’s become “much more conservative and political and puts himself in a position of power, not unlike a Colin Powell. He’s now politically cornering the Avengers, he’s outsmarting them.” Joe also added that Ross was included because the Russos felt it was important to make The Incredible Hulk “relevant again within the [MCU]” as it “maybe a little bit forgotten”.
Daniel Brühl as Helmut Zemo:
A Sokovian colonel-terrorist Sunny is obsessed with defeating the Avengers. Zemo, the information goer in the word China, doesn’t wear the mask of his character from the comics. Bruhl has said that the version shown in the film is “subtly identified” with the character from the comics, and that this was one of the reasons he likes Marvel, because “certain characters and they always refer to the scene, so my character is from a different area than what you think.” A product of the [Marvel] Cinematic Universe and something specific within the universe up to this point, Anne Russo called him “a man: his view was: I’ve fought enough of these people. But I can’t do that. Brahul, who was given his accent, considered the role a stereotype, saying, “It’s not a guy who’s mean and sinister, but he’s actually clever—a guy who does things very well. Understandable reasons and motivations.” picture
Additionally, John Slattery and Kerry Condon reprise their roles as Howard Stark and the F.R.I.D.A.Y.-Protest. John Kani from previous MCU films appears as T’Chaka, close to T’Challa and the ruler of Wakanda; plastic; Alfre Urder, who starred as Maria Dill in the MCU TV series Luke Cage, appeared as Miriam Church, a powerful civilian piled on Sokovia. Upon learning of his casting in Marvel Studios’ Luke Cage, Downey offered Woodard the role. Jim Rash appears as an MIT-Fakami member, while Kalling makes a cameo appearance as Lifex Decaveriman, and co-director Rushomi Kao plays Theos Brand, a psychiatric member Zemo murders. Damion Poitier, who had recently appeared as Thanos in Avengers before the subsequent success Brolin took on the role, appeared as one of The Room’s mercenaries.
