Blue Beetle is a 2023 American hero film in view of the DC character Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle. Produced by DC Studios and The Saffron Company and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is the 14th installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The film is directed by Ángel Manuel Soto and written by Gareth Dunnett-Alcozar, and stars Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle alongside Adriana Barraza, Damian Alcazar, Raul Max Trujillo, Susan Sarandon and George Lopez.
Development of a film featuring Reyes began in late November 2018, with Dunnet-Alcocer attached as screenwriter. Soto was hired to direct the film for streaming service HBO Max in February 2021. Mariduena was cast that August, and the film was rescheduled for a theatrical release in December. Further projecting occurred in mid 2022, preceding recording occurred from late May to mid-July at More out of control Studios in Decatur, Georgia, as well as in El Paso, Texas and Puerto Rico.
Blue Beetle debuted in El Paso on August 15, 2023, and was delivered in the US on August 18 by Warner Brothers. Pictures. The film received generally favorable reviews but emerged as a box-office bomb, grossing $129 million worldwide against a production budget of $104 million and becoming the lowest-grossing film in the DCEU.

A recent college graduate who gains superpowers when an alien scarab grafts onto him, forming a powerful regenerative exoskeleton around his body.
Adriana Baraja as Nana: Jaime’s grandmother.
Damian Alcazar as Alberto Reyes: Jaime’s father.
Elpidia Carrillo as Rocio Reyes: Jaime’s mother.
Bruna Marquezine as Jenny Cord: The daughter of Ted Cord and Jaime’s love interest. Isabella Aparicio also plays a younger Jenny.[citation needed]
Raul Max Trujillo Ignacio Carapax / OMAC: A lieutenant and bodyguard working for Victoria Cord. Aiden Rivera portrays a child Carapax, while Joel Gonzalez portrays a teenage Carapax.
Susan Sarandon as Victoria Cord:
CEO of Cord Industries and sister of Ted Cord who is hell-bent on acquiring the Scarab. Sarandon says Victoria represents the theme of “imperialism in the name of democracy”, and is driven by a need to be ambitious and prove herself after her brother mysteriously disappears and leaves her company.
Jorge Lopez as Rudy Reyes: Jaime’s uncle.
The film also stars: Belisa Escobedo as Milagro Reyes, Jaime’s younger sister; Harvey Guillén as Dr. José Francisco Morales Rivera de la Cruz / “Sanchez”, a scientist who works for Victoria;[11][16] and Khaji. – Becky G as the voice of Da, a sentient being who possesses and controls Scarab. An incredible actor portrays Ted Kord in a voice-only cameo role in the mid-credits scene.
