Carnival Row

Carnival Row is an American dream TV series made by René Echevarria and Travis Beacham, in view of Beacham’s unproduced film spec script, A Killing on Festival Row.[1][3] The series stars Orlando Sprout, Cara Delevingne, Simon McBurney, Tamzin Trader, David Gyasi, Andrew Gower, Karla Crome, Refined Froushan, Indira Varma, and Jared Harris. The series follows legendary creatures who should make due as mistreated evacuees in human culture, as a criminal investigator attempts to tackle murders associated with them.

 

Carnival Row’s first season was delivered in quite a while whole on Amazon Prime Video on August 30, 2019. In July 2019, Amazon reestablished the series briefly season, which debuted on February 17, 2023, and filled in as the series’ last season, finishing up on Walk 17, 2023.

 

Premise

In Carnival Row, “legendary animals… have escaped their conflict torn country and accumulated in the city as strains are stewing among residents and the developing settler population”.[4] There is an examination concerning a line of strange killings, inquiries of frenzy of force, unsettled love, and social changes consuming anything that uncomfortable harmony exists.

 

Main Cast and characters

 

Orlando Bloom portrays Rycroft “Philo” Philostrate, an inspector of the Burgue Constabulary who is dedicated to uncovering a sinister conspiracy within the city. Despite being a half-fae passing as a human and a war veteran, Philo’s sympathies lie with the fae, much to the disdain of his colleagues.

 

Cara Delevingne plays the role of Vignette Stonemoss, a faerie also known as a “Pix” in a derogatory manner. She was once Philo’s lover and believed him to be deceased after the war. While grappling with her complex emotions towards Philo, Vignette finds herself associating with a group of fae troublemakers called the Black Raven.

 

Simon McBurney portrays Runyan Millworthy, a human street performer and the leader of a troupe of kobolds.

 

Tamzin Merchant takes on the role of Imogen Spurnrose, an heiress who becomes entangled with Agreus in order to maintain her lavish lifestyle.

 

David Gyasi embodies the character of Agreus Astrayon, a wealthy faun who is ostracized by the elite society of Burgue due to his appearance and origin, derogatorily referred to as a “Puck.”

 

Andrew Gower portrays Ezra Spurnrose, Imogen’s brother, whom she holds responsible for mismanaging the family’s finances and plunging them into debt.

 

Karla Crome plays the role of Tourmaline Larou, Vignette’s fae companion and former lover. She is the Poet Laureate of Tirnanoc and works as a courtesan at the Tetterby Hotel in Carnival Row.

 

Arty Froushan embodies Jonah Breakspear, the rebellious son of Absalom who defies his controlling father. By the end of the first season, Jonah assumes the position of the new chancellor.

Indira Varma portrays Piety Breakspear (season 1), the manipulative wife of Absalom Breakspear who is determined to establish her family’s lasting influence.

 

Jared Harris plays Absalom Breakspear (season 1), the chancellor of the Republic of the Burgue.

 

Caroline Ford embodies Sophie Longerbane, the ambitious daughter of Ritter Longerbane who gradually develops empathy towards the Fae.

 

Jay Ali takes on the role of Kaine (season 2), a Fae aligned with the Black Raven who goes to extreme lengths to improve the lives of his people.

 

Joanne Whalley portrays Leonora (season 2), a faun with a broken horn and the leader of the New Dawn revolutionary movement.

 

Jamie Harris appears as Sergeant Dombey (season 2; recurring season 1), a constable sergeant known for his prejudiced beliefs against the Fae and his disdain for Philo due to his sympathy towards them.

 

Ariyon Bakare portrays Darius Sykes (season 2; recurring season 1), Philo’s former comrade and a former soldier of the Burgue who is now held in luxurious captivity at Bleakness Keep as a result of being bitten by a Marrok, a wolf-man created from a virus, during the war.

Tracey Wilkinson takes on the role of Afissa, the housemaid and cook to the Spurnroses, known as the “Puck.”

Ryan Hayes embodies Constable Thatch, a rookie constable who harbors a strong hatred towards the fae.

Waj Ali plays Constable Berwick, Philo’s timid partner who remains loyal to him despite his timidity.

James Beaumont portrays Constable Cuppins, a constable who deems Philo’s interest in the fae as unnatural.

Jim High assumes the character of Fergus, a human servant in Agreus’ household.

Scott Reid embodies Quilliam “Quill,” a footman who was unjustly dismissed by the Chancellor and turns to radicalism.

Brian Caspe takes on the role of Nigel Winetrout, a politician and close advisor to the Breakspear family.

Chloe Pirrie portrays Dahlia, the ruthless leader of the Black Raven, known as the “Pix.”

Anthony Kaye embodies Bolero, the loyal second-in-command of the Black Raven, also a “Pix.”

Sinead Phelps assumes the character of Jenila, Sophie’s lady’s maid who is a “Puck.”

Maeve Dermody plays Portia Fyfe, Philo’s persistent landlady who makes romantic advances towards him.

Leanne Best portrays Madame Moira, the owner of The Tetterby Hotel, which she operates as a brothel.

Anna Rust takes on the role of Fleury, a courtesan at Moira’s establishment. Ronan Vibert embodies Ritter Longerbane, Sophie’s father, Absalom Breakspear’s primary political rival, and a long-time advocate for fae subjugation.

Mark Lewis Jones portrays Magistrate Flute, the head constable in the Burgue who urges solidarity among his officers and frequently clashes with Philo over his concern for the fae’s well-being.

Erika Starkova plays Aisling Querelle, Philo’s mother and a once-famous “Pix” singer who now scavenges for a living.

Theo Barklem-Biggs embodies Cabal, a discontented “Puck” who seeks to unite his brethren.

Fraser James portrays Erasmus Fletcher, a politician and advisor for the Longerbane family.

Eve Ponsonby plays the role of Phaedra, a vigilante known as a “Pix” and a member of the Black Raven.

Stewart Scudamore takes on the character of Boz Ghaidos, a well-connected “Puck” with cattle horns who manages an underground fighting ring.

Andrew Buchan embodies Mikulas Vir, a Major in The Pact army who travels to The Burgue to secure a weapons deal, carrying a secret of his own.

Karel Dobrý assumes the role of Ambassador Anrep, the ambassador for The Pact to The Burgue.

Jacqueline Boatswain portrays Mima Blodwen, a spiritual leader and “Mima” fae who guides Tourmaline.

George Georgiou plays Kastor, a high-ranking member of the New Dawn responsible for overseeing Agreus and Imogen.

Gabriel Andrews is cast as Hensloan.
